Architecture contest for The Home of Nature and the Environment on the island of Saint-Pierre & Miquelon, by Encore Heureux and L. McComber.
Maison de la nature

Contest for the construction of The Home of Nature and Environment on the islands of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, a French territory off the coast of Newfoundland.

Description
Built in collaboration with the Parisian firm Encore Heureux, the building is a response to the island’s environmental and rural context. Its simple and emblematic geometry makes it modest and welcoming. The project unfolds on a three-level promenade that gravitates around the exhibition space. Views from the house’s gables open onto the public square to the north and, to the south, onto a closed, educational garden whose walls protect the vegetation from spray drifts. The promenade culminates on the summit of the building in the form of a covered lookout that offers visitors a view of the horizon, the port, as well as nature and its environment.
